Algirdas Semeta was appointed Business Ombudsman in Ukraine in December 2014.

Semeta is a Lithuanian economist. He served as Minister of Finance in the Government of Lithuania from 1997 to 1999 and again in 2008-2009. From this position he was nominated to become European Commissioner, first for Financial Programming and Budget (2009-2010) and then for Taxation, Customs, Statistics, Audit and Anti-Fraud (2010 – 2014).

His current challenge as Ukraine’s Business Ombudsman is to positively and practically contribute to the improvement of business climate, combating corruption and promotion of best international practices in Ukraine.

Semeta graduated in 1985 from Vilnius University's Faculty of Economic Cybernetics and Finance with a degree as economist-mathematician.
