John Barter became a member of the GLOBSEC Leadership Team in July 2019. Originally from the UK, John has lived in Central Europe for over 20 years.
A seasoned professional with 17 years’ experience as a Commissioned Officer in the Royal Air Force Regiment followed by 21 years in the industry undertaking, senior regional leadership roles within the company with responsibility for the coordination and running of campaigns of more than €1Bn.
Skilful negotiator and a natural leader who injects energy into anything he takes on John oversees the Economy & Business Steam at GLOBSEC. In addition, he is passionate about subjects such as climate change, climate security, countering disinformation and promotion of women in leadership. At the beginning of this year John took responsibility for GLOBSEC activities in Ukraine where he believes he has found his calling.
The war has greatly changed the labor market in Ukraine: many people have gone abroad and many have been mobilized. The country is facing a shortage of human resources, which poses serious challenges for the economy. The government and businesses need to adapt their approaches to education and training now to ensure the stable functioning of the economy during the war and prepare the country for recovery after it is over.
At this panel discussion, we will focus on what is already being done to retrain workers, which industries are experiencing the greatest staff shortages, and what ways to address these problems can be effective. We will discuss how the government and business can cooperate to solve human resources problems using international experience and the latest approaches.
